Once an assessment identifies a need for panel work, the next decisions are scope, approvals and disruption. A panel replacement and a service-capacity increase are not necessarily the same project.
Get the recommendation in writing
Ask what condition or planned load the work addresses. The proposal should distinguish panel equipment, branch-circuit work and utility-side requirements. Include future appliances or EV charging in the assessment rather than adding them after the scope is agreed.
Plan the interruption
Confirm the expected work sequence, utility coordination and inspection requirements for the address. Discuss refrigeration, communications and other essential equipment before scheduling. Do not assume a quoted installation day includes every approval or reconnection milestone.
Check exclusions and closeout
Clarify whether grounding work, wall repairs and other discovered conditions are included. Keep circuit identification, inspection records where applicable and operating information with the property records. A larger panel is not a promise of lower electricity bills.
