A rewiring project starts by establishing what wiring is present, what needs replacement and how it can be accessed. The building’s age alone does not define the full scope.
Document the affected areas
Share previous electrical records, known alterations and the rooms or circuits of concern. An assessment may identify a targeted replacement or a broader project. Ask why each proposed area is included.
Plan for an occupied property
Discuss access, work phases and power interruptions. Identify equipment that needs special arrangements. Clarify where openings may be needed and who handles patching and painting; wiring and finish restoration are separate scope items unless combined explicitly.
Coordinate approvals and closeout
Confirm the applicable permit and inspection process for the address. Keep the agreed circuit plan, change approvals and completion records. Do not treat accessible visible wiring as proof that concealed parts of the home use the same system.
