A higher winter bill can reflect more electricity used, a different rate or a longer billing period. Check those separately before paying for an electrical upgrade intended to solve the wrong problem.
Compare like-for-like periods
Use the number of billing days and kilowatt-hours to calculate average daily use. Check whether the reading is actual or estimated and whether the price or fees changed. Ask your electricity provider to explain a billing discrepancy before treating it as an installation issue.
Identify the changed load
Record newly added equipment, portable heating, EV charging and changes in occupancy. Where an appliance provides its own usage information, compare it with operating hours. Do not open electrical equipment or improvise a monitoring connection to investigate consumption.
Choose the right follow-up
A billing concern belongs with the provider. Appliance performance may require its service technician. Repeated trips, heat, damaged devices or an installation change need an electrical assessment. Share the symptoms and equipment details rather than requesting a panel replacement solely to reduce the bill.
