Commercial EV Charging: Planning Projects in Northbrook and Zion

A commercial charging project needs more than a residential charger multiplied by the number of spaces. Establish who will use the chargers, how access is controlled and who will operate the system.

Define the operating model

Separate employee, fleet, tenant and public charging needs. Record expected parking duration, the number of vehicles and whether payment or access control is required. These choices affect equipment selection and operating responsibilities.

Assess the property and approvals

Review available electrical capacity, parking layout, routing and ownership. Northbrook and Zion are separate jurisdictions; do not carry one municipality’s application requirements over to the other. Confirm the applicable authority for the actual address and involve the property owner early.

Budget for ownership after installation

Ask who handles software accounts, communications, maintenance and support. Separate equipment and installation costs from recurring services. For multiple chargers, discuss capacity allocation and future expansion before selecting the hardware.
